Mushema's Mustache

This old rascal has been teaching for like 30 years. He likes to read American novels, so I gave him the Da Vinci Code. Since then, every time he sees me he brings up more and more of his "theories" about the book. Its ridiculous. Also, check out his mustache. Its catchin on here like wild, and they call it the "Nyrere" but those of us from Western nations might know it as something else. Its crazy to see people rockin that mustache all over the place...

To my left is Apollo (I think he gave himself that nickname), who was my star baller for a good six months. The kid has mad hops. Anyway, he's originally from Moshi, and used to work as a porter for Kili climbs. He said that if I climb it in October, he WILL come with me. Its good to have a man on the inside...

Pius Paul's Death Stare

This picture is the perfect example of the classic Tanzanian picture pose. They do everything possible to make their face completely devoid of any emotion such as "joy" or "elation" and straight mean mug the camera. I always feel awkward smiling some big cheesy white-man smile while standing next to a person giving the camera the death stare.

Thuggish or...?

Some of the guys in this picture were my best friends. The fellow crouching in the center looking mean and I would play this game where we would try to always get the drop on one another, and then "shoot" the other person. If I shot him first, he would go into the most elaborate fake deaths, it busted me up.

This is a picture of most of my departing students after their graduation ceremony. The man holding my hand was our guest of honor, he's a deacon or some such.

The Tallest Tanzanian

The fellow to my left is one of my form 5 students, and was recently elected to be the school's "Head Prefect". We always joke around about who is taller (I think he's got me by a quarter inch), and right before this was taken I arched my feet and he got all freaked out and did the same thing. He cracks me up.
